Pondering

Along this tranquil shore we sit
pondering, with hearts in love.
I wonder do you dream, as I,
beyond these watchful trees?

Do you see them stretch their limbs
to hold the dusky sky?
Their strength and grace reminds me of
the way you lift me up.

Scalloped ripples glisten gold
across a wavy mirror,
reflections of a setting sun
or the hearts of lovers near.

I wonder do you fear, as I,
when still air holds its breath,
and twilight ponders on the day
too soon our time will end?

For hours slide so easily
when I am by your side.
I dream, that on this darkened shore,
a "forever" we might find.
