The stars blacken the sky

“How are you today?”
He asked with a smile.
“I’m fine” she said.
Her insides were vile.
They were as black as night,
and as dull as grey.
Dragging herself
from day to day.
“And how is your skin?,
How are your arms?”.
He asked with a smile
that could charm all charms.
“they are okay” she replied,
a false smile she may wear.
Inside her heart cracking,
nearly ready to tear.
But her arms said different,
scars covering her wrists
Her eyes clouded over,
lost in mists.
He smiled for a minute,
then noticed her eyes.
The two things she’d said,
had both been lies.
“you’re not okay, are you?”
he asked with fright.
She shook her head softly,
looking out on the night.
