"First Child"
When I first discovered that I was “with child”, I looked at my husband and lovingly smiled. We’d patiently waited for this day to come. Now, he’d be a papa and I’d be a mum! When we gave the news to all our relations, They hugged us both and said “Congratulations!” Our parents were happy! A grandchild-to-be! We all were quite joyful; this I guarantee! My body grew rounder, each week after week. Long gone was that figure, so slender and sleek. My face was all bloated; my ankles felt thick. The mention of food made my stomach feel sick! I suffered each morning, ‘till due-date was near. When contractions began, I felt gripped by fear! My time had now come, just as I knew it would. Now, I must have faith that all goes as it should. The labor was painful! I lost self-control! Just having this baby was my only goal! Then I saw the face of my new baby boy, The pain was forgotten! My heart filled with joy. rhyme: a-a-b-b meter: 11-11-11-11 ![]() ![]()
