The Courage to Live: A Seaside Lesson

To love someone deeply gives you strength.
Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage. ~ Lao-Tzu

Drained of even an ounce of strength,
I stood by the lashing waves –
recounting the passion you had for me,

A mere speck in the sky of your purple eye
I met you and we coalesced with Faith
into a pool of bottomless love.

Grieving for you I sit on the rocks
And see your face in the waters twirling
impatiently about my tired feet.

You gave me your all, and asked naught,
and passed away into life’s night, unrequited
I gave you my all too, but it wasn’t enough.

As I gaze at the far-away horizon,
uninvited, tears course down my cheeks
and my heavy heart heaves an intrepid sigh.

I remember your smile, your cheer and your love,
and shrugging off the pain deep down inside me,
I straighten up and arise to meet the rising moon.

Life goes on, and I have resolved
to venture out into the world,
and conquer Life’s miseries with a smile.

And when I join thee, my beloved,
we shall embrace once again,
and walk down the memory lane in Love.
