Encaustic
hoping for spring and a tree frog in amber

Encaustic

Today I will be
what I wasn't yesterday,
shedding winter's clothes.
No crocuses, yet
but the greening scent of spring,
carried on the wind,
creeps under my skin,
perfumes it with violets
and drydown of moss.
Encased in tree sap,
the radiance of amber,
a tiny tree frog
glows in memory,
as the Eternal Return
endlessly cycles.

Author's note: A tiny tree frog, found in amber, believed to be perhaps 25 million years old. Encaustic, is a type of painting using molten wax. The process lends itself to collage and texture in a painting.
