FOR THE BIRDS

"You know Janice these birds are getting on my nerves." Cliff complained. The red Macaw said. 'On my nerves on my nerves!"

"I can't see why they get on your nerves! They’re beautiful and clever too."

"They're messy! It's like having chickens in here," he went on.

"I'm the one who cleans after them."

"But I still have to live with them."

"I wish you wouldn't get in these moods. Why do you hate my birds so much? What do they do to you?"

The African Gray echoed, "To you, to you."

"Maybe it's because there are too many of them. Who needs five parrots?"

"But each one is unique and special. I love them all. They're company for me when you're away. They talk to me."

"They don't talk. They mimic sounds. They don't know what they're saying."

"Dovey does," she protested. The African Gray repeated her name. "Dovey. Dovey."

         "It's just mimicking sounds."

"She! Don't call her it, it hurts her feelings!"

"It has no feelings! Where do you think the saying bird brain comes from?"

"From people like you who don't understand them. Are you trying to make me get rid of my birds?"

"I know you never will. We'll always have parrots."
