Have You Ever Heard the Robin Sing
Entrapment within ones own life.

Have you ever heard the robin sing,
A song full of sorrow— of pain?
She stands on her perch, full of want and longing.
Knowing she has become tamed.

Bitter tears fall upon, blue molted feathers.
Salty taste that burns a lost soul.
Longing fills her, to leave behind these vultures.
Finally able to be whole.

Ready to fly, to break away from this cell.
Time to learn about true freedom—
To spread her wings wide and touch the glowing sun.
Freedom—it finally has come.

Once, not too long ago, I listened to a robin sing.
No longer trapped, telling of the places she’s seen.
