The Process
Thought to mind and I think
I think of the many possibilities that I could explore
And convert to written expressions.
The mental places I could travel
And take the unsuspecting reader along for the ride
Fresh, eccentric, exciting thoughts
Waiting to become wonderful words of life

Pen to paper and I write
I write what I have thought and then some
For it seems when I reach that comfort zone
Where words are my best friends
And phrasing becomes like breath
I no longer think about what I am writing
But the words carry me
Where I did not image I could go
New, powerful, encouraging words
Waiting to become a soulful song of life

Song to lips and I sing
I sing praises for once again
The seemingly inevitable writers’ block
Has been conquered
My mouth rhythmically opens
And the sound of melody and harmony intertwining
Quickly diffuses into the air
And fills it with a sweet symphony
A heart-filled, moving, touching song
Waiting to become a delightful dance of life.

Music to body and I dance
I dance because the song requires it
Because the unheard drums command me to move
My hands, feet, legs, head, toes, fingers, ears
Freckles, moles, scars, pimples, hair
All tingle in anticipation
Of the amazing climax they are sure will follow
A lively, buoyant, exuberant dance
Waiting to become a penultimate part of life.

Satisfaction to soul and I smile
I smile a smile of completion, of conviction
My thoughts have evolved to words
Then to a song and emerged to a dance
And now I am truly satisfied
I can go on with my day
For I know that I have finally completed
The process that keeps me happy
And undeniably preserves my sanity.
