Prologue: Rayu

Enveloping darkness began to consume the land, a soft mist falling to obscure the vision of the inhabitants of the land.  Rusty brown orbs floated in the midst of a large ash tree, surveying the rocky gray landscape.  Sudden movement draws the creature’s attention to a large shadow soaring overhead, descending from a high mountaintop.  The fading sunlight glinted off a green diamond-shaped scale and glowed through the thin wing membrane as a grandiose dragon passed in front of the setting sun.  An ear-piercing cry is emitted from his lips, shattering the silence and echoing off the distant mountain range to return to frightened ears.  With a quick bound, the small winged horse is gone from where she was resting beneath the tree, hidden in the shrubbery at the mouth of a nearby cave.  The dragon, the greatest predator of the time, is fleeing.
