Morning Prayers

Intoning light’s praise
mourning doves greet dawn’s first rays,
while wind chimes dance echoing
the birds’ gratitude.

I rise from sleep’s sepulcher,
chant God’s Most Great Name
and proclaim my thanks:

Beloved,
your verses are fires consuming ego’s chador,
lights guiding my soul to immortality’s sea,
and fountains of loving water
sating my spirit’s thirst.

NOTE: A chador is a loose fitting black robe that covers the body from head to toe.
