Desire
The focus of us all--we all want something.

For each of us that walk this life
there's more beyond the living:
beyond the struggle of doing tasks,
beyond the trials each day brings,
beyond the troubles that take us down
to fall, and try again.
What brings each to stumbling stance
summoning will and heart
are what is yearned for, desired deep
that sets each one apart.

I can take the hardest day that comes
and fight the direst foe
I can let my bleeding self recover
if I only know
what I yearn for's within reach
and I've not far to go.

Some want money, some want fame
some want hearth and home
many want security
and standing on one's own.
Some yearn for higher things
the union with the soul
others yearn for passion's fire
(are they not the same?)

It matters not the wishing
or the desire deep
For each of us our path is set:
to take the day and make it ours
and sing our worries down
and find our dreams how we may--
and sail, but not to drown.
