A god there was in Eldest Days
and worthy of unending praise, for all that lived came of his thought, ere grass or wind or tree was wrought. Ere land was made or sky was seen, when all around it was pristine. When air was clean and fires cooled Lo! that was when Franduin ruled. Franduin went by many names but all of them, they meant the same. For he was the Almighty King, Creator of most anything. The flowers blossom when he sings and all is well under his wing. All the world became his ring for he created everything. Of his creations, we were the first, the Angels Blesséd, we were athirst, for merry and laughter it was our cheer. For there was nothing dark to fear. Sacred and holy, we became with wings so bright as if from flame. Darkness and evil was unknown when Franduin sat on the throne. For many years we lived in peace but shadows grew out of the east. An Angel Light with gift of life created friends with skill of knife. But hideous were they, unclean, a mar on all those who had seen them shyly standing by their master with a look of pure disaster. They were shunned from all the land, cloaked in fire and darkling hand. Their anger grew and forth they fled, and in the darkness was their bed. A world they wrought from shadow and flame, and all the more dark they became. They were now enemies to all and Demons is what they were called. Soon all of Heaven was invaded, the light that shone from there was shaded. A great battle was then fought, swords and shields and armor wrought. Franduin marched upon the evil, knowing that his fate was sealed. The Shadows thence became too strong, the Angels would all die erelong. Franduin stepped forth and dueled their master. Their swords were flashing, faster, faster. At last Franduin cast him down, but surrounded by darkness he was now. The Demons thence has overcome, and out of darkness they stepped from, they smote the King Almighty down and laid waste to his golden crown.
