A SOLDIER'S DREAM The desert sand was shifting and rolling as he finished his watch and headed for the tent. Always at the ready, his rifle close beside him, he lay down heavily on the cot, energy spent. Sleep came quickly and with it the same dream of emerald green hills and an old oak tree where he had carved hearts with their names and "I love you forever" could still be seen. In a dress of soft blue, she carried bright flowers and once more, he was thrilled at her charm. Together they walked to the edge of the ocean, then watched the waves as they stood arm in arm. The sound of the waves soon replaced by a blast shaking the ground around him, no part of the dream! He went to join the others, this good band of brothers, who would struggle to survive the war as a team. The soldier lay dying, while others stood crying as he drifted into a never-ending sleep, unware that the white dove was his last dreamy vision and very soon he would rest in God's loving care.
