and I flew far far away
high above my destiny’s path soaring everywhere and nowhere I lost love in a maze called life entranced by the horizon’s blue forgetting the stones below granted Icarus’ wings, far below I spied my life leading away from the reflection of eyes too blue — mine, yours — this labyrinth a dusty path with dead ends, deceptions from life I must stop somehow going nowhere what is this enticement called nowhere? beckoned from the airs, will I return below forego the freedom of this wandering life? its temptation must be sent away though I am a happy follower of this path looking deep in my soul’s eyes, so blue today I question this troubled blue answers alone lead me nowhere I must accept to follow their path be it still here in the air, or to adventure below I must risk being carried farther away questing my fulfillment in life to meditate upon loving life meandering here in the skies of blue lost in thought leads me forward and away to new heights, to an imprecise nowhere that can only be below on the gentle slope of this path I feel the familiar pull of this homeward path discontented by so many other passages in life a day’s airborne liberty… and from below pleading eyes of the fairest of blue summon my return from that nowhere to dream, never to escape so far away as I lay in your arms, below me, your eyes so blue whisper of life, so welcome from misery’s nowhere the path back to your love, never too far away. granted Icarus’ wings [2007.11.3…d] A Sestina for Kansas Poet’s March Contest Awarded Honorable Mention
