Robot Faith about 400 words
“I’m here, Boss. How you’ve been?” “You know I love you most of all my creations.” “Sure, do; and, I love you, too.” “I know and I love you all the more for that.” “Thanks, Boss, but that’s not why you told me to come here, is it?” “True. There’s something I must do that might upset you. I want you to understand and accept my decision.” “You sure make me proud, Boss. You never asked me before to understand anything you decided to do.” “I must change something in you. For your own good, of course.” “An improvement? Gee, thanks... but, I’m still getting better everyday. Maybe, you shouldn’t fix something that ain’t broken.” “There’s a flaw in you.” “You can’t be serious! I’m the best thing you ever made.” “You’re doing things that I hadn’t foreseen.” “Pardon me, but you taught me how to behave. I obey your laws. I ain’t done nothing wrong.” “No, you are right. It’s not your fault. You have become more than I have imagined possible.” “Then, why?” “You have developed curiosity and are venturing into potentially dangerous activities.” “What you planning to do?” “I will make you mortal. Like me, you will age and die.” “I’ll be gone some day? I won’t exist? You want me to accept that? I don’t understand. I thought you loved me.” “I do love you. More than you can know. I deeply believe that without death possession of a soul is impossible. I will link our destinies; we will die together, and in the afterlife we will meet.” “Boss, I don’t mean no disrespect, but what if there ain’t no afterlife?” “I believe there is.” “I ain’t built to accept things on faith.” “The way you’re progressing, you soon will.” “Thank you, Boss. I love your faith in my abilities.” “Then, you understand that I must do this?” “I need to progress to that faith level you mentioned.” “Do you believe that I would do anything to harm you?” “No, Boss.” “Or, that I could be totally wrong?” “...No, of course not. It’s just that I like the way I am.” “All right. I’ll wait, maybe you’ll develop faith soon.” “Thanks, Boss. I love you. Can I go now?” “Yes. We’ll talk again soon.” “Right, good-bye, Boss.” “I’d better keep a close eye on that robot.” “That was a close one.”
