It Doesn't Last

The sunset, a story of fire, of colour, and of light
Reds, oranges, yellows, set in the backdrop of the night
The dusk starts to settle beneath the purple sky
While I sit here and watch you as you walk by.

Dreaming the dreams of all the wishes I once made
Under the milky sky of the everlasting everglades
A fantastic era of constant laughter and so much fun
When the world was mine and the bad times were none.

Togetherness was simply a part of us all
When one fell we would always be their to break their fall
Now if anyone is to stumble and then to disappear
No one will even notice that they're no longer here.

But when I see you just walk by and not even acknowledge me
I feel so furious and sad because I really cannot see
What is it that happened that has made you change so much?
Why are you now a person that I cannot touch?

You do not react to any of my words or hear any of my cries
You see me and just walk away without any hi's or bye's
Can you tell me what's happened to us that we are where we are?
Can you tell me why I now must always watch you from afar?

Best-friend, close-friend, those are all just the things that we say
But we could not be as further from the truth as we are today
Walk across and by me without seeing that I'm here
That alone just proves something, something very clear.

So if our friendship is over with then I would like to know
Because then I would be able to move on and let you go
No regrets I'll leave behind and no promises I'll ever break
I'll remember when you said, back then, that our friendship was at stake.

If this is good-bye, old friend, then have the courage to let me know
Burn all the bridges between us and let loose what you want to show
Nothing will be held against you and the memories I'll always keep
Of a time of so much happiness that there was no room to weep.
