The Evaporation of Winter
It seemed he owned eternity for he hung around so long, so through those endless empty months I would dream of winter's end. Just this morning, over coffee, I witnessed his defeat, and secretly I snickered at old man winter's fate. The weaver of my misery lay melting into puddles, quivering in the presence of a young and warm spring breeze. So I donned my rubber boots and stomped and kicked each puddle, until a million scattered drops lay helpless in the sun. I smiled beneath the warming rays as winter silently departed, and I basked amidst the rising steam; 'til I realized 'twas just my coffee! (written for Stormy's poetry newsletter contest)
