The Evaporation of Winter
A poem about my dislike of winter. Honorable mention in "Stormy's Poetry Newsletter"

The Evaporation of Winter

It seemed he owned eternity
for he hung around so long,
so through those endless empty months
I would dream of winter's end.

Just this morning, over coffee,
I witnessed his defeat,
and secretly I snickered
at old man winter's fate.

The weaver of my misery
lay melting into puddles,
quivering in the presence
of a young and warm spring breeze.

So I donned my rubber boots
and stomped and kicked each puddle,
until a million scattered drops
lay helpless in the sun.

I smiled beneath the warming rays
as winter silently departed,
and I basked amidst the rising steam;
'til I realized 'twas just my coffee!
