He awoke suddenly. Above him was a small woman hovering. She reminded him of a hummingbird except hummingbirds aren’t splashed with glitter, wear shiny pink skirts, or have flowing purple curls.
“Who are you?” he whispered. “Why sweetheart, I’m the tooth fairy. My name is Giselda.” Her voice was soft like a gentle breeze. “Tooth fairies aren’t real,” he protested sitting up. She smiled gently. “I assure you, I am real.” He looked at her skeptically. “I’ll show you; your name is Zach and this is the first tooth you’ve lost.” He grinned. “Nope! It’s the second!” She shook her head. “The first one, Cole yanked out for you.” He stared at her incredulously. “Wow. You really are the tooth fairy.” Her tiny body sat down on the pillow. “I really am. Before I have to go, do you have any questions for me?” “What do you do with the teeth?” “I’m in real estate. I collect the teeth to build castles in Fairy Land. We prefer teeth that fall out naturally instead of being pulled out.” “Why?” “Teeth that have been pulled out don’t work as well because they aren’t as strong. Plus teeth that fall out naturally look nicer.” “I won’t pull out any more teeth, I promise,” Zach said making a cross over his heart. “Thank you. Your teeth are some of our most desired,” she winked. “I have to go back now. You be a good boy, Zach.” “I will. Bye, Tooth Fairy!” She fluttered out the window. He watched as her silver wings carried her into the night. He reached under his pillow and pulled out two golden coins. He clutched them in his hand and put his head back on his pillow smiling at his magical secret. **300 words**
