Just another typical day in Potions. I'd already gotten everything ready for class when he came into the room. His robes billowed out behind him like the sails of a ship. Stalking over to his desk, he slammed down the massive tome he was carrying.
Everyone came to attention then. Without pausing, Professor Snape launched right into the lesson. We opened our books in a frantic scramble to keep up. He spoke in deadly quiet tones, sneering all the while. It was very difficult to keep from sneering back at him. He knew without fail, which buttons to push. As the class strove to work out the ingredients for the potions he'd described, he began to circle the classroom. Obviously he wanted to make sure we were doing as we were told. He passed by us, leaving behind a faint scent of wild spearmint and cedar. Never before had the two aromas been so appealing. I was more than a bit surprised at this revelation. And then he was back at our table. Apparently he seemed very interested in something I was writing. He leaned closer, his body heat causing an unexpected reaction in me. His hair brushed my shoulder as he read my notes. "Very good, Miss Granger." His voice was silk and spoken so low, I was sure the compliment was for my ears alone. Heat surged pleasantly through me. "Thank you, sir." I struggled not to stammer. I didn't want to reveal just how much he'd rattled me. Suddenly the classroom began to dissolve. We were the only two in a world of mist and fog. And his lips. They drew closer to mine. When our mouths met, time itself seemed to draw to a halt. I melted into him and completely lost myself in the moment. Then, just as quickly as it started, it was over. With the slam of a book crashing to the floor, reality returned. "I don't have any room for lackadaisical behaviour in my class, Miss Granger. Do wake up." Everyone snickered. Even Ron. Sitting up, I realized I'd dozed off. Being exhausted from all the studying I'd done lately was starting to really take its toll. My face burned with humiliation. How could I have let my guard slip like that? Snape gave me one last glare and continued on his circuit of the room. Even though I scrambled to gather my thoughts, I found myself watching him with an adoration I'd never felt before. Beside me, Ron muttered, "Greasy git." I pretended not to hear him.
