AN ODE TO LAUGHTER—a sonnet
Why laughter is called the best medicine? Because the men of medicine do vouch That when all the time sorrows do we spin, We are more likely to take to the couch. Medical research so far does mention, Cases of medical, surgical type Heal well if there is no mental tension, But are worse if depression is in hype. All over the world we have laughter clubs. Their popularity shows but one thing: If you forget your sorrows and hiccups, Both mind and the body will be in zing. So harken, all men, laugh and be merry. Do not all the time mental woes carry. • Second place winner in "SHAKESPEAREAN SONNET CONTEST: Closed " M C Gupta 3 April 2007
