A PLACID LIFE
I have lived a placid life devoid of sinful fun. Favors of Bacchus or Venus I have never won. The only aim in my life has been to surge ahead, To retrieve His path from which I have wantonly fled. Scorn for my colorless life my friends have often heaped, Asking me mockingly what benefits I have reaped. They think I'm wasting my life in pleasureless pursuits. For them life is meant to be spent in cozy conduits. How can I explain to them God sent me to this world, Not to blow my own trumpet, rather to spread His word? I know that when the night ends there will be a sunrise. In the royal garden He will give me a surprise. His glorious splendor will show in its serene haze That will instantly set all my earthly sins ablaze. Then will flow a breeze that will have the sweetest essence, Imparting to my spirit a heavenly fragrance. • Written in aabb, 13-13-13-13 format M C Gupta 10 April 2007
