(written for the "Pretty As a Picture" contest …) "Fiendish Victim" The buxom beauty screams and runs away. He’s the hunter and she is the prey. Her clothes are torn; her body’s nearly bare. Between her screams, she utters a short prayer. “Dear God in Heaven, who can this fiend be? And what’s the reason he has chosen me?” She runs inside the cemetery gate. “Forgive me! I don’t mean to desecrate.” She hides behind a headstone, takes a breath. She’s shaking now, her body’s cold as death. She peeks around; the fiend is not in sight. “Oh God,” she prays, “help me survive this night!” She listens, but she does not hear a sound, But then she hears a rumbling in the ground. Then suddenly, the earth begins to shake. “Perhaps, hiding in here was a mistake!” She feels a touch! He’s reaching from a grave! He rises; his intent is to deprave. He leers a crooked smile with jagged teeth. Her screams then stop as she’s dragged down beneath. 4-10-07 rhyming couplets iambic pentameter
