Awakened From My Slumber
Awakened from my slumber I wish I could go back to the land that's always painted in a single shade of black Why did I have to awaken from that numbing sleep I had no need to worry; it never made me weep Why can I not return again to that dreamless realm Where swirling whirlpools of misery never overwhelm Why must I endure this wobbling world of regret Where pain sits upon me like a loving loyal pet A season of sorrows surrounds my temporal throne I shall always be unwanted distant and alone The dreams of youth have faded my body slowing down If Hades would only welcome me to his dark underground Could I but follow Orpheus' dim distant refrains to the land that Cerebus guards on somnolent plains Oh, let me return into that dreamless nada state So I won't stagger beneath the cruel blows of fate Whatever could my purpose be, has anyone a clue I know of nothing worthy that I might ever do What matter if I leave here? No consequence I see The world will go on turning it never needed me I will bow out gracefully; will you turn out the lights I am tired of the struggle, tired of the fights Let me just lie down here and close my heavy eyes Oh, let’s not bother with long and sad goodbyes Let me return to my slumber, return again once more To search in sightless silence for sleep's--eternal door
