The Swingset
My depiction of how life is like swinging on a swing

“The Swing Set”

You sit yourself on the hard rubber,
Preparing for a simple ride.
But little do you know,
It’ll be one of your last.

You start off slow, pushing forward,
And your mind begins to turn,
Thinking how slow life is at the start,
How sweet and innocent it was.

Then you begin to go faster,
You think about how you grow.
You remember all the friends you used to have.
Used to run around and play with.

Then you speed up even more,
The speed reminding you what life was like.
How you sped through school, through friends.
How you began to worry, began to notice yourself.

The speed once again increases,
The people you used to be friends with,
The ones you used to like, or maybe still do,
Flash through your head, making it throb.

You begin to lose control,
The chains wrap around you.
You whiplash everywhere,
You are totally lost among the sounds, the sights, the thoughts…

Then you finally slip, fingers and all.
You fly through the air, screaming,
Clawing the air in a desperate attempt to stop the fall.
And in one moment it all hits you. Everything.

You lie down on the ground,
Crying from the terrible pain.
Not only from the fall,
But the memories as well.

In that one moment,
You remembered all those people you loved.
All those people you abandoned for forgotten reasons.
All those people who you hurt, killed.

And now, as you are carried,
Into the red and white lights,
All those people are lined up,
Waiting to see you join them,
So they can give you a perfect hell.
