Industrial chemicals seep through the soil. DDT and PCB’s cling to every cell Of fish and fowl and me, Most foul and stupid, Naive prey and hunter upon the journey - me. Slipping through life with blinders on, Pretending in this illusion That the fog of pesticides, sprayed lawn chemicals Children once danced through, was safe. I slept lulled by the assurances of Wiser ones who on my behalf Made choices and decisions, Spread lies throughout the world. How complacent we are, Living what’s meant to be the mystic’s journey Cocooned and constrained By a killing straight jacket of greed. Reprocessed plastics travel from China Too hazardous to melt down here. Manufactured crap to fill our dollar stores. And in the process of recycling that crap, We destroy ourselves and them Enmeshed in this web we call life. In our lusting for we know not what, Sipping through plastic straws, lips sealed, And bodies quietly plumped full of chemicals, Looking much like last year's Christmas turkey, We want, want and want. Insane world - A painful, absurd play upon this earth. Forgive us, forgive me Gaia. The web of life - You pull my string, I’ll pull yours - Puppets dancing on a smoggy breeze.
