Digging
A poem for the one I used to love.

Dig the hole deeper, my love-
We’re not in over our heads yet.
Dig until you feel
The heat of the Earth’s core
Soaking into your skin.
Dig down, farther
Than you could ever dream.

Dig deeper- love. Dig
Until you can’t feel the pain
Of the disappointed ones
As we sink further
Into our pit-
Our pit of broken dreams,
Lost religion-
Sarcasm and broken thoughts.

When we’re finally in-
In over our heads,
Fill our hole back up with dirt,
Lest our secrets get out,
And hurt- hurt the ones
Who don’t understand.
