Mama's Pleas
A poem I wrote for my children when they were very young.

You were all such lovely
Precious little people

Mama ached to hold you
Holding you was good

Needs united into one
Self sacrifice

So simple coming more
With maturity

I gave myself to you
You gave your best to me

I pray for all of you
In earnest and with love

Pray that God will lead me
Down this road of motherhood

I pray for strength
For patience that I lack

For guidance and the willpower
To discipline

For oversight of reason
Cause I'm being teased

You see the kool-aid
In the sugar bowl

Means more than gold
To me

You are all your own persons
Reflecting only part of me

Lovely lively children
With wisdom beyond your years

Let not your anxieties
Betray you

Stand firm
Your fight with fear

Your father beams
With glory

When you come to him
My dears

Know yourselves
Like yourselves

Share your likes
Be proud of who you are

Most importantly
Be who you are

Remember God
He made you all

He loves you
Even more than Mama can

So walk with God
Love your lives

With Him
Be at ease

You're young in years
These are your Mama's pleas
