Hokie’s Lament
Virginia Tech is full of grief. The Hokie hangs his head. Around the Drill Field, cries are heard And many tears are shed. Blacksburg is now a saddened place. Gone is the Hokie pride. Where futures once were full of hope, Now thirty-three have died. The Hokie friends and families Have gathered far and near To offer help and sympathy And solace from the fear. A tear falls from the Hokie’s beak As he bends down to pray For all the souls of all his friends Who died that fateful day. His Hokie cry of victory Is silent for awhile. It may take days or weeks or months Before this bird can smile. But we all know a Hokie’s tough, “Be strong” is good advice. But don’t forget to bow your heads For those who’ve paid the price. 4-17-07 written by: LaDonna (Johnson) Olanyk Va Tech alum: class of ‘80 ![]() **This was written the day after the horrible shootings at Virginia Tech.
