Speaking your Name
Thoughts on remembering a lost loved one

There was a time when I spoke of you daily
Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Brothers anyone who would listen
They all listened; they liked hearing your name

There was a time that I spoke of you often
To Family, Friends, and Strangers that I met
A look of sympathy and compassion was what I would get

There was a time I spoke of you only to those I became close to
When I felt they were ready to hear it and it wouldn’t be awkward
Surprise and interest is what I received because they hadn’t known

There is today when you are always in my thoughts.
Not a day has gone by when I don’t speak your name
In my head or out loud it’s all the same to me

My final comfort is in knowing
That when all is said and done
That in a matter of one heartbeat we will be one
