Following are the responses to "Why Do You Write?"
Enjoy! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Michael Wonch 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? This is really a huge question. I'll bet many will send ya lists of reasons. Since I can be a bit too wordy *ahem*, I'll sum mine up as best I can. I write fiction because: 1. I wish to indulge the gift God granted to me (and that I squandered for far too long) 2. I enjoy creation; I can't ever know how God must feel at HIS accomplishments, but I think I can get at least a tiny hint and maybe a LITTLE understanding of Da Big Guy. Feels good to complete, seems to always be "in flux," and is extremely satisfying when others happen to enjoy even the first drafts. 3. Part of it is creating a world into which I can escape the real world for awhile. And, perhaps, help others do the same (if I do it right). 4. I learn a LOT through research... 5. I love it... 4. Any other comments? ============================= TheWýtçhè - Away Indefinitely 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. I tend to write in all genres 3. Why do you write? I write because I love it! There is just something about putting pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, that is magical to me. The written word is divine, in my opinion, whatever its subject matter. I think every person has a story to tell and I would kick myself in the can if I didn't voice my inner muse. Also, and this might be kind of morbid, I would like my words to live beyond my physical existence, whether hand-written or electronically. I think of it as a record; proof that I was actually here in this life, with maybe something to say, something to inspire those who will follow me. It's my footprint upon the sea of humanity. It's mine and it's unique - as is every author's body of work. 4. Any other comments? Writing, to me, is a way of life! It's a means of giving voice to every aspect of ourselves, whether dark or light. It's a way to vent, a way to grow and expand our knowledge and understanding of the world in which we live; a way to whisk ourselves off to places unseen and unknown. It's giving voice to your imagination and personal experience - and validating both. ============================= gypsy4evermore 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. Only chose other since I write all three 3. Why do you write? Cause it's impossible not to. Whether it's a letter, a journal/blog, a story or an essay, I have to be writing about SOMETHING. Either that or slowly go insane as that voice in my head screams "writewritewritewritewrITEWRITEWRITE..." Plus it's a whole lot of fun and relieves stress. 4. Any other comments? Comments?? You mean a chance to write more???? While writing is an important part of my life, I've never felt a huge drive to share what I write with others. As such, I doubt very much I'll ever even try for publishment. The enjoyment of simply writing something is enough. ============================= Daddy Ziok 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? Such a simply written question but one that requires such a complex answer! For one, I write as a form of escape and a way to better understand myself and perhaps even others in some way. But in other times, my writing is for the entertaiment of my own wishes or to put into words forms of anger, resentment, or sadness. There isn't any one answer to why I write and I can say that not all the reasons I write were in the above paragraph. All I can say for an absolute answer is, I write because it is me! 4. Any other comments? Some writing I structure around an outline, adding details as I go and other times I just start writing and see where I end up. Both methods have produced favorable results for me! ============================= Stiggles 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? It ranks up there with eating, drinking, sleeping, and breathing. It's in the way we're hardwired. You just have to do it. 4. Any other comments? Of course, there is always the goal of publication. However, most writers, I think, would still say they had to write whether they were ever published or not. ============================= *Barbara Maria* 1. What do you write? Journaling 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? I have to express my anxieties and writing helps me do that. But also because I like to share of myself in hopes that someone out there may get something they need. Writing is an escape for me...where I feel safe and comfortable. It's also therapy, but mostly; it's a way comunicating and a lot of fun. I love to write! 4. Any other comments? I've never been one to talk a lot so, when I write I can say so much more. It is very important for me to be understood by others. ============================= jspinelli 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? I love it! I enjoy creating other worlds, filled with characters I can relate to, and some that even I don't understand - and maybe I don't really want to! Many times I'm overwhelmed by the need to express myself and I can find no other means quite as satisfying to do it. Writing is an emotional outlet of the very best kind. 4. Any other comments? I hope I will be able to read the opinions of others. Opinions are fascinating things! I also hope I didn't misspell anything. ============================= Breezy-E ~ In College 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? Because I like to watch my characters go on adventures, and I'd like to be as famous as the authors I admire. Plus, I'm hoping that when I get published, I'll make enough to help me get through college without straining my parents' pockets too much. But it's mostly the first reason. 4. Any other comments? ============================= Scarlett 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? To express my thoughts and feelings, relieve tension and hopefully entertain others and make them smile. 4. Any other comments? I believe many writers have an innate need to write which can sometimes be a pleasure and sometimes a pain! ============================= Princess♥BooBoo 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? I write because I have to write, because if I don't write, I'll go crazy with all the stuff swirling around in my head. 4. Any other comments? ============================= bmorgan 1. What do you write? Nonfiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? 1) To inform others and to make them aware of both interesting facts and widespread problems. 2) To help me learn more myself. 3) To help others learn, too. 4) To please my teacher. Just kidding. 4. Any other comments? Please check out "Brittany's Factbook" - it's where the bulk of my work on WDC is stored. ============================= susanL 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? I write a lot of fiction, by the way, but I write other stuff too, including the blog/journal I write because when I don't I feel like a drug addict going through withdrawal. I get depressed, disillusioned, and generally unhappy with life. Writing is my lifeblood, no question. It has been since I was ten years old and wrote my first story ever. Probably even before that...I've always been in love with reading and writing. 4. Any other comments? I think I said it all in the previous one! ============================= awesome aussies 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. All of the above 3. Why do you write? I write because I enjoy it, might be good at it, and it's the best career I could think of while following Heart around. He is the most important person in my life and I need to find a career that is mobile (worldwide). 4. Any other comments? ============================= AntiBarbie - megamommies.com 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. fiction, journaling, poetry 3. Why do you write? As therepy and for fun :) 4. Any other comments? none ============================= In Your Dirtiest Pants 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? Because there are constantly plots and character sketches running through my head. It's really true. I see someone that I find interesting and I created a life and a world for them. I've always been a story teller and it used to get me into a bit of trouble with my parents and teachers. But now my stories are safe on paper. 4. Any other comments? ============================= karabu 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. fiction and non-fiction 3. Why do you write? It's the best way I can express myself. 4. Any other comments? ============================= Maryse Bardolph 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? Because I can't not write. The story ideas bubble up in my mind, and the only way to get rid of them and focus on things like work and relationships is to write them down. I also love writing. It makes me feel amazing. The rush I get from seeing an idea fully fleshed out on paper is incredible. Sometimes I write to educate, as well. I know a lot about a few things, and I want to share that. 4. Any other comments? ============================= PastVoices 1. What do you write? Nonfiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? Because it is a gift I shouldn't and can't (sometimes) contain. 4. Any other comments? ============================= arakun the twisted raccoon 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? I've loved making up stories ever since I was a little kid, but only recently started writing them down. If there is a story going around in my head, I have no choice but to write it. It takes over my life until it is written. 4. Any other comments? ============================= Lauriemariepea 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. also blogging 3. Why do you write? many people have said they enjoy having written, but not the writing itself. yep, that's me! i have a low-grade compulsion, which unfortunately doesn't draw me to the keyboard with pounding regularity, but is more like a quietly nagging stitch in my side...it's not annoying enough to do anything about, but it won't go away, either. i long to be self-supporting, from my writing. ha! and i fantasize about booting stephen king out of his mansion and settling right in. double ha! but really, i just get a kick out of people's responses to my writing--fiction & blogs, both. (now i just need to actually write, and i'll be set. 4. Any other comments? i'm looking forward to reading other people's answers to the survey. thanks! ============================= holly1993 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? Because its funny! 4. Any other comments? I love to write poetry more than anything! ============================= Diabhail 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? I had scarcely thought about why I wrote at all until I saw this link. Sometimes I feel like writing purely for personal enjoyment, not caring whether anyone acknowledges my words or not. Other times I feel it would be criminal to bottle up what ideas and phares enter my head. Writing can be seen as very therapeutic, a statement I could swear by sometimes. It is a fun and engaging pastime, and a challenging way to better one's self. I'm not saying I feel a constant need to better myself, but if I didn't write I would feel that so many ideas and observations would be wasted, meaning a waste of the talent that I have been given. 4. Any other comments? No thanks, one was enough. ============================= tomboy13 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. I write all of the above except nonfiction. 3. Why do you write? I write because it gives me something to do when I am bored and I enjoy it. 4. Any other comments? No not really, but you should check out my port sometime. ============================= scruffy duck 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? Because I can't stop it. if I left the thoughts, the people and rhymes inside my mind there is the very really possibility that my head could explode. It feels like it sometimes. Writing has kept me going, been my escape since I was little, when I first started writing fanfiction to help me ignore the madness around me, to the poetry I started writing at 17, to the novel I'm working on now. I can't NOT write. it's impossible. I write everywhere. At work, on the bus, at home, in the middle of the night in the dark. I can't do anything else. I'm not particulary artistic, or smart but I can write and I always will. 4. Comments: Any other comments? ============================= Zandria Kajewski 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. poetry 3. Why do you write? I like to play with words. Words can be a beautifull thing. I like the sounds they make and the picture they paint. 4. Any other comments? I sometimes write short stories and essays but mostly poetry. ============================= likenion 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. not really 3. Why do you write? I write because I need to express myself! Writing is a way of life and every word is like a new breath! Writing is that passion without which life loses its meaning! Other than that i want to share my visions with all the people around me! 4. Any other comments? I think that this is an interesting survey to get to know the psyche of the writer and try to make out an universal profile. Apart from that there is nothing more to add except: Keep up the good job! ============================= Katie L. 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. none 3. Why do you write? I've been writing since I was old enough to write coherent sentences. For school and then, later, for myself with poems and a little journaling. I write for several reasons: when I'm bored, when I need an outlet, when I have some extra time to kill, when I have a good idea, etc... Basically, I write for leisure, not for any specific purpose (except for school, maybe). I write because I enjoy writing - it's my most efficient an fun way of expressing myself. 4. Any other comments? nope ============================= Budroe in 2012! 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry,Journals, Articles and Essays 3. Why do you write? Writing has been a part of my daily living since, at least so far as I have records to prove it, the age of eight. As my life has progressed, it has become apparent to me that any words I can write I can speak. If, however, the words are not written, I mostly merely mumble incoherently. Most of the words which I write come from within my heart, and my mind. Sometimes, however, I do "hear from Home", and I can write words which flow from my Spirit. This is my favorite writing. I am merely ten willing fingers, giving a place to the words my Dad gives my fingers to type. They are His, I just get the "By" Line. That's why I write. Some people breathe; I write. 4. Any other comments? It is a very interesting question. I would imagine that the principal reasons change over the course of a life. I can truly say that, at least thus far, mine have not. I think that is a good thing. I'm growing "correctly". In His Care, and Yours! Budroe ============================= LOUISE KAY 1. What do you write? Other 2. If you chose other, please specify here. Parenting advice & other helpful articles 3. Why do you write? I have 20+ years of experience as a parent and my head has always been full of ideas and information. Have had a lot of people tell me I have talent or tell me that they find my insights helpful, so thought I'd share what I know with a larger audience. 4. Any other comments? I also write some fantasy work. ============================= Starr* Rathburn--10 yrs w/ WDC 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. Make that "Dark Fiction." 3. Why do you write? I write because it's fun; it's relaxing (well, sometimes); and because it makes that weird feeling in my head go away. You know that feeling, the one that says, "you have to write something right now!" It's not always good enough to be shared, but I just gotta write. I also write, because, as Frank Fradella once said: Writing is putting words on the paper until the voices in your head shut up. 4. Any other comments? If it wasn't for writing, I'd be running down the street, tossing granades into peoples' faces. --Paul Fussell. [ ] Check this box to agree with the above statement. ============================= Alyce Mitchell 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? Dialogue, scenes, characters and on occasion entire stories come to me and I have to write it all down. At times I have had to cancel dinner plans or even quiet evenings with my family to barricade myself in my room and type for hours until I get everything on paper. I have to admit I am happiest when I am writing. Especially when I have spent several hours writing and come away with 20 to 40 well crafted pages. 4. Any other comments? ============================= InPursuit 1. What do you write? Fiction 2. If you chose other, please specify here. 3. Why do you write? I write fiction that is generally based on life events that have been expanded upon. Writing is to me what therapy is to others, my chance to vent, vocalize my frustrations and joys alike. 4. Any other comments? No =============================
