The forgotten summer

i wish i could forget
everything
you. me. us.
our friendship
our sisterhood
all the memories of
cars. pools. swingsets.
parks. stars. pens.
markers. clothes.
diet coke. cigerettes.
empty pop cans.
empry cigerette packs.
empty promises.
laughing. talking.
smiling. running.
walking. sleeping.
dancing. playing.
promising each other
the idea of forever.
the thought of life
as if this would
never end, our creation.
our escape from life.
from hurt. pain. love.
lies. loneliness. regret.
heartbreaking realizations
that this had to end.
for we could not escape
reality for long.
and sure enough soon
the time came to return.
and so it began agian.
all the hurt and lies.
the empty promises.
the bitter realizations.
the lonely tears
that fall at night.
when all the
nightmares
catch back up
with us yet agian
untill we are ready
to shatter with
all the thoughts of
what we were.
what we had.
and the hollow
feeling that fills
the heart til its
ready to burst
as we remember
that the past
is just that
and, no matter
how hard i
desperately try.
it will never
come back.
