Couplet
A Sonnet written about a father and daughter who lost their mother.

The format is based on the standard Italian Sonnet set out by Giacomo da Lentini. I used a variant on the rhyming scheme used by John Milton in On His Being Arrived to the Age of Twenty-three. The rhyming scheme is indicated by the lower-case letters to the left of each line. Couplet is my first attempt at Iambic Pentameter. Please, enjoy!


'Couplet'

a - To tell a tale of smiles and tearful heart
b - Betwixt two souls of all our destined dreams
b - As life goes on to show us now, it seems
a - Two souls, as these, should ne'er be torn apart.

a - On sandy beach, a man and daughter start
b - To marvel at God's creation. It teems
b - With lovers in the waves, as sunlight streams
a - In cloudy skies. Above, they play their part.

c - And just above the roaring, crashing sound
d - The father tells the girl a secret with
e - A mother's fate which is so cold and dark.
d - The girl, now older, thus dispels her myth.

c - As life goes on, the story comes around.
a - To tell a tale of smiles and tearful heart.
