The format is based on the standard Italian Sonnet set out by Giacomo da Lentini. I used a variant on the rhyming scheme used by John Milton in On His Being Arrived to the Age of Twenty-three. The rhyming scheme is indicated by the lower-case letters to the left of each line. Couplet is my first attempt at Iambic Pentameter. Please, enjoy!
'Couplet' a - To tell a tale of smiles and tearful heart b - Betwixt two souls of all our destined dreams b - As life goes on to show us now, it seems a - Two souls, as these, should ne'er be torn apart. a - On sandy beach, a man and daughter start b - To marvel at God's creation. It teems b - With lovers in the waves, as sunlight streams a - In cloudy skies. Above, they play their part. c - And just above the roaring, crashing sound d - The father tells the girl a secret with e - A mother's fate which is so cold and dark. d - The girl, now older, thus dispels her myth. c - As life goes on, the story comes around. a - To tell a tale of smiles and tearful heart.
