The Commitment of Time

Like a passing thought
which skillfully alludes my grasp
Inspiration for writing
lost in the passage of days

Staring at landscapes overcome
by the beauty that is Spring
I crumple page upon page
for the words fail to flow

Sitting in the window
becoming one with the rain
It's said this is good writing weather
but I can't bear that out

Like a sinister plot
ideas remain at bay
Sum total of my writing
is simply reviewing I fear

And swearing an oath
to all I hold dear
I'll sit at this keyboard
For as long as it takes
No coffee, no cigarettes
No endless short breaks
No time for excuses
No hiding in chat
I'm going to post something
Even if it falls flat
Inertia it creates
will finally break the hasp
