OF MOTHERS
God is probably a mother Herself, Though tuned we are to think of Him as male. Of the various gods and goddesses, The Mother Goddess appeals to me most. It’s not without reason it has been said: God created a mother because He Himself could not be present everywhere, Yet wanted man to have godly presence. Who is a mother? In essence, she is The one who gives birth and nurtures the child. If that be so, then Mother Earth too does Deserve to be revered by all of us. But alas, mothers are often ignored, Be they of the human or earthly type. • Written in pentameter • Awarded second prize in The Great Mother Contest, "Invalid Item" M C Gupta 17 May 2007
