GIVE ME STRENGTH AND PEACE: a sonnet
I hope a day comes when I need not live In waters full of alligators, sharks. To have such a day what I shall not give? My life has been so full of scalds and sparks. The worldly ways are mean and devious For which unsuited is my simple heart. My path is lost, Lord make it obvious. Tell me from where and how to make a start. I gladly shall do what You have ordained, But don’t forsake me when I need You so. In waters dark I have so far sustained, But beyond this I can no longer go. Lord, do bestow on me Your strength and peace, So that I carry out Your task with ease. M C Gupta 19 May 2007
