Behind These Scars
A depressing poem.

Behind the scars,
And the facade
Is a person.
A feeling,
Breathing,
Dying,
Person.

Behind the mask-
Is someone with
Memories,
Emotions,
Dreams,
Fears,
And a life.

Because hiding
Is the easiest
Most natural,
Quickest,
Safest,
Thing to do.

Don’t pity me,
Or be angry;
Enraged,
Disappointed,
Ashamed,
That I hide.

Instead ask,
Ask why I hide?
Ask where?
With whom?
When-
And what
I hide from?

I hide under these scars-
Their stability
Comforts me.
Consoles
Protects
And shields me.
They hide me.

Behind the scars,
And the facade
Is a person:
Feeling,
Breathing,
Dying,
And hiding from you.
