Interrupting Silence
A poem describing brief moments between silence.

She hesitates
Just a moment
Like the second after the jump
Before gravity takes hold
Like the instant between breaths
Before the lungs expand again

Silence

She begins
Just a whisper
Like the rustle of a bed sheet
That hushes like the morning doves
Like the motion of the death of leaves
Waltzing with the pavement

The silence seeps between her teeth
Like expanding secrets swallowing sound
There is silence now
