BODY AND SOUL
Let me dwell upon what’s my Gift that is most precious, As also my failing that’s, In a way, pernicious. I am clear that my body Is the most precious gift. Only through it can I get Salvation sure and swift. I refuse to believe that I was born in black sin. I am God’s own creation, With consciousness within. God first made the fish and fowl, Then beasts He created. But only in man has the Conscience permeated. In my own belief system I think all have a soul, That’s reborn in many shapes Till it reaches its goal. The goal is to be born as Humans with a conscience, Who can live a righteous life With wisdom and patience. Only those whose life is pure Can attain salvation. For salvation, the body Provides a foundation. For me the best gift is my Body, without a doubt. But regarding the soul, too, I need to talk about. I often keep forgetting, My body, I am not. I am the soul within, which I have been to world brought. Once I know the master is The soul, not the body, Then only the spirit will Rise in its rhapsody. • Written in abcb, 7-6-7-6 format • This poem reflects the essence of Hinduism. • Showcased in the Spiritual Newsletter dated 1 October 2009 M C Gupta 24 May 2007
