"Don't go out," she whispered as she stared helplessly at the lone candle sitting in a pool of wax on the table.
The cracked window let in an icy wind that played dangerously with the flame. She knew something was hiding in the dark-waiting in the shadows. It always hid from the glow of the candle. She pulled at her restraints but was unable to break them. Why was she here? What was in the shadows? Horror set in as she saw the last of the candle wax dissolve along with the light. Darkness closed all around her. "Please, don't . . . !"
