MATERIALISM IN OUR SOCIETY
We can all see that in our present world, matters is already going in the wrong dimensions, issues is getting out of hand. One of these matters that have eaten deep into the fibrous root of the world countries, mostly peculiar to the developed countries like America, London etc it is this issue of materialism. Materialism according to Oxford Dictionary is being defined as an act or the tendency to have keen interest in material possessions, physical comforts, than involvement in spiritual values. A person who believes that material possessions are of more value to him/her is being referred to as a materialist.
In addition, it includes the urge to get rich quickly, pursuit of power by all means not considering the danger ahead and also greediness. In all these money is not left out, recall the scriptural saying that goes thus” love of money is the root of all evil”, this explains it all. Materialism is also due to the intention of every citizen in purchase of magnificent building, driving exotic cars, purchasing of expensive clothing and living an extravagant life. These have resulted into moral decadence in the world society.
Involvement of some leaders will be touched due to corrupt practices carried out which involves embezzlement of public funds through fraudulent means, bribery is not also left out, this has gone deep into the root of the society today and in some countries it has been regarded as a normal life style. Having discussed this issue, we are now going to consider the measures to be taken to stop this ugly situation.
In curbing this situation first and for most is the presence of the fear of God, leaders should lead by examples by not handling corrupt practices with levity. Hard work should be encouraged coupled with truth and honesty. Finally we as citizens need to discipline our selves and we build the world together in any country we are present in. To make the world a better place for me and for you.
