Divinity
Candy prompt for Flash Fiction contest, 120 Pieces of a Nightmare

Divinity is the candy of the Gods. Light, airy, melts in your mouth and on your tongue. It takes a certain skill to make the perfect batch, skills like mine have taken a lifetime to perfect.

Just take, for instance, Maryanne from next door. She loves my divinity, everyone does. She begged for my family recipe and just yesterday I caught her sneaking a peek into my recipe box. So, I gave her my recipe, with a little change in the ingredients. Here she comes now to borrow some crystalized vanilla sugar, another secret family recipe.

Guess I'd better put the arsenic away, amazing how easy it spills now, isn't it? And looks divine in crystal form, too.

Bon appetite!
