A Haunting Scent

There it is again! Lizzie scrunched up her nose. That same hideous smell, something putridly filthy, seemed to be following her.

She first smelled it after her car ran off the road near the woods outside of town, and then again as she walked back to the Cozy Diner. Now that vile smell was here in the diner’s restroom. A quick glance under the stall doors assured Lizzie that she was alone. She checked the bottoms of her shoes. Nothing.

As she washed her hands, Lizzie glanced up at the mirror and jumped at the sight of a dead woman staring at her. Decaying flesh hung from the gaping hole in her forehead. But where was her own image?
