The wind howls through the trees
The wind howls through the trees Every leaf is shaken Every leaf is shaken Wind shaken through the leaves Wind shaken through the leaves Star hides behind the cloud Star hides behind the cloud Fearful of the storm's rage Fearful of the storm's rage Cloud hides the fearful rage Cloud hides the fearful rage Green leaves fall like raindrops Green leaves fall like raindrops Littering the landscape Littering the landscape Green raindrops littering Green raindrops littering Every leaf, fearful, hides The wind howls, the storms rage The star, trees, cloud of green Shaken raindrops fall Leaves littering behind Like the landscape is through (This paradelle was written in the modified form with 6 syllables per line and the 5th and 6th line of each of the first three stanzas repeating.) (A paradelle is an interesting modern poetic form that began as a joke by writer Billy Collins who passed it off as a "little-known French poetic form". Other writers tried it out, often with hilarious results. To learn more about the paradelle, look for "The Paradelle: An Anthology" edited by Theresa M. Welford, featuring "A Brief History of the Paradelle" by Billy Collins. It was published by Red Hen Press and is available online in PDF format. Just enter "paradelle" in the search box and it should come up as one of the first couple of choices.)
