You Never Know
This was a successful attempt to sort out feelings toward an old flame of mine.

Page after page
thought after thought
word after word
Thirteen pages of longing

Minute surpasses minute
the hours line up
the same songs repeat
in their inquisitive rhythm

I wet my lips
and stare out my window
Memories taunt and tease
a sigh escapes me

Facts that don’t add up
questions without answers
songs with no melody
music needing sound

A battle rages on
the sea is angry
Truth is right in front of me
and yet I cannot make sense of it

My candle still burns
but flickers with the changing winds
my faith is tested
my patience weary

I continue to wait
hope refusing to diminish
there is a promise in the wind
if I fight for it

Can I
Will I
Knowing that I must
for anything is better than the now

Whatever be the outcome
I must be willing and ready
Because you never know
until it happens
