Space Ship
Poem about a space ship

A spaceship flies through the sky
On its way to another planet
Controlled not by man
But by machine
As it runs on autopilot

The crew asleep await
Until they are awakened.

Through space it flies
Towards its destination
A planet believed to harbor life
In a far off solar system.
Once there the crew will awaken
To make contact with the planets population.

The time is near for the crew to wake
To make contact with the planet
The computer starts to wake the crew
And starts to collect planetary data.

The crew now awake and ready for work
Their task has just begun
They send out messages of peace and friendship
And wait patiently for a reply

A short time later the computer beeps
It's picked up a communication
I think the planet's replying
Says the communications officer.

On speakers says the captain
A few seconds later they here a sound
But no one can understand it
They speak a language they don't know
The computer struggles to translate it.

Moments later a ball of light
Comes silently towards them
There is a large explosion as it hit
The ship is torn to pieces.
