MAIL FROM HOME.
Soldiers far from home need to know we care everyday.

MAIL FROM HOME.

We may honour our Veterans and give them support,
We may wave our flags proudly for the wars they have fought.
But it's while they're away, and feel tempted to cry,
That they need to know often, we are standing by.

It doesn't take much to jot down a word
Every day that goes by, even if it's absurd.
For it's simple things really that they want to hear,
The things they are missing: the things they hold dear.

Tell them of outings and trips to the shops:
Or what is on telly: or a song that is tops.
A care package filled with these everyday items
That we take for granted, is sure to delight 'em.

The rations they get are substantial for sure
To sustain all their strength while fighting a war.
But that little bit extra to feed their morale
Makes such a great difference to one and to all.

When my boys were gone to those far distant places,
Just a package of Vegemite brought a smile to their faces.
Their favourite sweets were a prize they could share
Amongst children who'd suffered more than we could bear.

So while you are sitting there, mulling your wine,
Take a pen and a paper and write down a line,
To them, our brave soldiers, who wait at the store
For mail, from the families - the ones they're fighting for!
