THE PATH IS LONG, THE EVENING DRAWS: a ghazal
The path is long, the evening draws. Lord, help me and pardon my flaws. Please save me Lord, You are my hope, Fate has me firmly in its claws. I repent, grant me salvation; The guilt of sin within me gnaws. Don’t count my virtues, I have none. I have broken all the ten laws. My strength, my power, is all gone; Satan now holds me in its paws. O Lord, save Your Khalish in time. He seeks Your grace from the death’s jaws. • Written in 8-8 format. It is a refrainless ghazal. For knowing more about this style, please see "WHAT IS A GHAZAL AND HOW TO WRITE IT?" • Included as Editor’s choice in the Spiritual Newsletter, 13 February 2008. M C Gupta ‘Khalish’ 24 June 2007
