Prayer

Lord, this is my prayer for today.

Thank you for your continual blessings. I tend to forget how many I have. I even forget to thank you for the breath you put in my body. This was brought home by Christopher Reeve, who said "If you can't breathe, nothing else matters."

Thank you for my children. They are my joy. Help me to always act as I should in front of them. They are looking to me to know how they should do.

Thank you that I'm employed. When my job gets on my nerves, as it does a hundred times a day, I should think of the people who want a job and can't find one.

Thank you for my house. My husband and I have been in a variety of housing. You have now given us a good house with a good yard for our kids, in a low-crime area with good schools. You knew this was important to my peace of mind.

Now, for the things I would like to ask for:

Loving people is where I need the most help. I realize You don't expect me to like everybody, but You do expect me to love them. Help me to realize that love is something you do for another person, not a feeling you have for them.

The prayer that never fails is "Thy will be done." Help me to know your will. Then help me to have a good attitude in following it.

Help me to forget the wrong a person did to me yesterday. In doing this, maybe they will forget the wrong I may do them one day, if I haven't already. In remembering that no human is perfect, may I remember myself first and foremost.

Help me to act like Your follower at all times. If being a Christian were illegal, and I were hauled into court for being one, would there be enough evidence to convict me?

Help me to remember to ask for your forgiveness. Even when I don't feel like I deserve it. Especially when I feel that I deserve it! I bring You to my level by thinking that You will only forgive me when I deserve to be forgiven. That will never happen, because I'll never deserve it. Help me keep in mind that You want to give forgiveness because You desire a relationship with me. The feeling that I am too guilty to ask forgiveness could only be from one source, because the longer I hold on to this feeling, the longer I'm prevented in maintaining my relationship with You.

In conclusion, I want to thank you for one more thing: for keeping me wrapped up in your love. That is the best thing of all!
