ACCENT ON POETRY.
A verse or six I need to write Hoping they won't upset friends Who read my poems day and night And complain how each line ends. My Aussie accent governs a word I use to write in rhyme. Though often that word is absurd To the majority everytime. When a poem that I write Should end a line with "doors" The natural rhyme for me to cite Would have to be "because". When reading verse from others, see, I get it in my head That a line could never rhyme with "ZEE" 'Cause in Australia, we say "ZED". I do not wish to gripe or groan 'Bout ratings which fall to three When I speak a language of my own And the rhyme sounds right to me. I'll make allowances for your speech If you'll make some for mine. And a compromise I think we'll reach Then things will be just fine. Cheers Meg. .
