Once upon a time, there was a boy. He was shy, and he never really talked to girls much. He was too scared to.
One day in 7th grade, he met a girl that was in his math class. They started talking online. He called her a bitch because she made him mad somehow, and she got really offended by it. The next day in math, she turned around in her seat and told him to call her a bitch to her face. The boy, being as shy as he was, said "no, I didn’t mean it!". It was all he could say at the time.
Later he apologized to her over instant messaging. She accepted his apology and then they became friends. They started talking a lot and they became closer over time. By 8th grade, they were already really good friends. Most of the time after school, they would hang out and talk until they got there rides home. He started to like her and came to school most of the time just to see her after school.
They got in "fights" sometimes and they talked each other through things as well. The boy would sometimes tell her he didn’t want to talk to her and he’d ignore her for about a week. Being as nice and caring as she was though, she’d apologize and they would make up, even though she’d have no idea what she had done. She never really did anything bad; it was either the boy’s jealousy of her liking or being with other guys, or he got mad at something she said.
He criticized her for liking a guy one time. She got really mad at him. The boy and the guy were good friends once, and the boy knew the guy wasn’t a good guy. He didn’t mean anything bad, he just didn’t want her to get hurt; and he was kind of jealous.
High School came around, and they didn’t really see each other as much. They started growing apart. The boy started liking other girls, even the girls best friend for a while. He’d always tell her about the girls he liked. All the time, when he liked other girls, he’d question if he loved her. He didn’t know why, but every time he asked himself, he decided he didn’t and that he liked her best friend.
Eventually, the girl got tired of the boy telling her all about the girls he liked, because he’d switch from girl to girl to girl. So she started ignoring him. Then he finally thought he realized he was in love with her. So he gave up on any other girl and constantly called her. One night, he decided he’d tell her how he felt. So he called, and she didn’t answer. He left a message, saying it was really important. She was busy, but because he said it was so important, she decided to call him back. Then he couldn’t say what he had to say, so he casually said "what’s up?". Then she got mad and hung up.
He couldn’t tell her in person, and he was really anxious to. So he decided to tell her best friend. Her best friend asked the boy if she should tell her how he felt. He said sure. The girl freaked out. The boy kept calling her but she’d never answer. She eventually told him online that he was annoying. The boy was really hurt. He kept trying to talk to her and kept sending messages saying how he felt. She said she was mad at him for liking all these different girls at once, like her and her best friend at the same time, and she said that she was mad because of the boy criticizing her about who she liked, and she was mad that he called bothering her when she was busy when he really didn’t have anything important to say.
The boy still kept trying from March all the way until July. Then, on the last week of summer school, he ran into her by coincidence, hoping he could talk to her. He did and he told her he didn’t like her anymore, hoping that they could at least be friends and get close again. The rest of summer, they didn’t really talk, besides him calling her and her answering one of his phone calls. It was only a casual ten minute talk though.
10th grade started, and then the boy started deciding he’d casually talk to her when he saw her during passing period sometimes. He would and he did this for a couple months on some days, just casually talking to her, not revealing the way he felt. Eventually, he gave up on it, after he saw it wasn’t going anywhere. It hurt because he cared about her so much, but he knew there was nothing he could do; they could never be close again.
